Program Name: Food Distribution

Program Description:
What does the program provide?
USDA donates a variety of foods to help participants maintain a healthy diet. The following foods are also provided monthly: canned meats, frozen meats, canned fruit and vegetables, died beans, peanuts and peanut butter, egg mix, milk, cheese, pasta, flour, grains and cereals, soups, spaghetti sauce, bakery mix, vegetables; potatoes, carrots, onions, grapefruit, oranges, apples, and pears.

We also offer home delivery on every Friday to clients that are home bound or have no other means to come and pick up their food.

We also deliver to Iron River the 2nd Tuesday of the month since the delivery truck comes in on the 2nd Monday of the moth. Fresh produce is delivered every Tuesday.

We will not issue food on the last working day of the month. This is when we do inventory.

We also conduct food demos to teach clients how to prepare healthy meals.

How does the Program Work?
Congress appropriates funding for the USDA to purchase food for distributions on Indian Reservations. USDA pays for the initial processing and packaging of the food and for transporting it to designated points within each state. State distributing agencies and Indian Tribal organizations are responsible for storing the food, transporting it at the local level to eligible recipients.

Who Benefits from the program?
USDA distributes food to members of Indian households living on or near a reservation and members of non-Indian households living on a reservation who:

A household may not participate in a Food Distribution Program on more than one reservation at a time, or participate in both this program and the Food Stamp Program at the same time.

The Service Area
We serve the Red Cliff Reservation, Bayfield and Douglas Counties excluding the City of Superior.

How is Eligibility Determined?
