The focus of SNAP-Ed is:
Health promotion to help establish healthy eating habits and a physically active lifestyle; and,

Primary prevention of diseases to help those who have risk factors for diet-related chronic disease prevent or postpone the onset of disease by establishing healthier eating habits and being more physically active.

SNAP-Ed focuses on key objectives:
Make half your plate fruits and vegetables, at least half your grains whole grains, and switch to fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products;

Increase physical activity and reduce time spent in sedentary behaviors as part of a healthy lifestyle; and,

Maintain appropriate calorie balance during each stage of life---childhood, adolescence, adulthood, pregnancy and breastfeeding, and older age.

SNAP-Ed is delivered directly through group and individual interactive learning opportunities and indirectly through the distribution of print and video materials. The program strives to include cultural components into teaching with emphasis on using traditional foods and maintaining an active lifestyle through gardening.
